Do You Have These 2 Issues?

Do you have “issues”?

Issues often refers to “having problems with.”  Used mainly when talking about problems in relationships, issues often exist when it comes to fitness.

Do you think you have issues affecting your fitness and weight loss goals?  Here are two issues I often come across and how you can rid yourself of them:

1.  Expecting Instant Results

You live in an instant gratification society:  Texting gets your message to someone in split-seconds, fast food is on every block, deliveries are overnight, and you can have your house, car, and even your dog washed while you shop or work.  You can have most things done now, fast, immediately.  Then you transfer this same expectation to your weight loss efforts and get frustrated when you didn’t lose a pound this week.

Be patient on your fitness journey because the more you get frustrated, the less results you will see.  You’ll begin to get discouraged, which leads to being less motivated to exercise, which leads struggling even more to pass up the French fries.  Focus on your long-term goals and how you feel – and don’t weigh yourself every day!

2.  Comparing Yourself

There are often two issues here:  You compare yourself to others or you compare yourself to how you used to be.

When it comes to comparing yourself to others, you need to remember that everybody is on a different journey.  If you’re working out and feel frustrated that the woman next to you is older than you but can do twice as many pushups, realize that she’s probably been working out much longer than you.  You may just be getting started or getting over an injury.  Don’t set unreasonable expectations (and re-read #1!)

Perhaps you get angry at yourself because you think about how you used to be when you were younger, single, in high school, without injuries, etc.  You can’t change the past and how you got to where you are today.  But today is tomorrow’s future.  Who says you can’t control the future?  Turn your anger into determination to make your future different from your past!  Decide today that you’re going to stop comparing yourself and setting unrealistic expectations and make just one healthy change NOW.

Work on these two issues and you’ll make huge strides towards your fitness goals.  Reply back here and let me know what you plan to do.

Committed to your success,

Priscilla
